North American Smart consumers may be subject exclusively to Electric Drive come 2018, but the chic city-car brand is continuing to flesh out its gasoline-powered models for the rest of the world's markets. To that end, Smart is unveiling two new special-edition models at the Geneva auto show next week.

New to the four-seat, four-door Smart Forfour model line is the Crosstown Edition, which sets itself apart via trim-specific side skirts and bumper covers that sport faux skid plates. Additionally, the model is lowered by 0.4 inch and rides on black-painted 16-inch wheels. Power comes from Smart's familiar 89-hp turbocharged 0.9-liter three-cylinder engine tied to a five-speed manual transmission.

Since the Forfour was never sold here, the Crosstown Edition is perhaps of less significance than the Smart Fortwo Brabus Edition #2 cabrio, a special variant of the droptop Smart. The sequel to the Smart Fortwo Edition #1 coupe, the Edition #2 is fitted with 16-inch Brabus wheels, LED daytime running lights, a red softtop, and a red leather interior. There are no changes to the Smart's 0.9-liter turbocharged three-cylinder, which here mates to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. We think a Smart Fortwo ED cabrio with the Brabus Edition #2's wheels, red roof, and red leather interior might garner interest in style-conscious U.S. cities such as Miami and Los Angeles.

Both the Smart Forfour Crosstown Edition and the Smart Fortwo Brabus Edition #2 cabrio reach Smart dealers across the pond in the fall, with the latter vehicle limited to a 100-unit run.
