2008 Yamaha Fx Cruiser

For 2008, Yamaha introduces two new models. The all-new Yamaha FX Cruiser Super High Output (SHO) and the FX SHO watercraft.

Both feature a huge 1812 CC engine, the largest ever put into a PWC. It's 300 CC's larger and weighs 45 pounds less than that of it's competitors.

This new light weight engine when coupled with the new NanoXcel lightweight hull make for a great accelerating and nimble handling hull.

The new SHO engine is the only engine in the high performance class that is optimized to run on regular unleaded fuel. Other comparable models are designed to run on more expensive high octane gas.

This engine is going to be a "modders" dream as there is plenty of room for improvement. It's rated at 210 HP in stock form at only 7500 RPM's. Max boost is only 6.5 PSI. I think it will be easy to get 300+ HP out of this engine by increasing the rev limit, optimizing timing, adding boost and running 93 Octane fuel. Once you ride this ski it becomes quickly apparent that it's a torque monster. Holeshot and acceleration are extremely snappy and handling with the new lightweight hull is incredible. The FX SHO is probably the best handling hull i have ever been on and i felt very confident whipping it around a buoy course at high speed. This ski just carves around the turns.

Top speed will be 66-67 MPH and it will holeshot and out accelerate both the Kawi 250X and RXT. They had them both there for us to ride and use as a comparrison. I think the RXT-X will take it though, but give some time for mods to come out and there isn't much that's going to be able to keep up with this ski.

These new lighter and stronger "NanoXcel" hulls and decks are found on the FX Cruiser SHO, FX SHO, FX Cruiser High Output.

Nanotechnology has enabled Yamaha to reduce the weight of their hulls by 25 percent while making them stronger than ever. These new NanoXcel hulls provide for increased acceleration, top speed, better fuel economy and more responsive and enhanced handling. Additionally, the finish of the NanoXcel in combination with Yamaha's state of the art painting facility provide for a quality of finish that was previously unattainable.

Other new innovations made possible by the engines onboard computer are Yamaha's Cruise Assist "Cruise Control" that reduce throttle fatique, improves towing capability, and will extend the range of the craft due to better fuel economy.

The cruise control works by hitting the "Set" button at your desired RPM's. You can then clamp the throttle all the way to the bars for a better grip. The "Up" or "Down" arrows can be pressed to increase/decrease the RPM's by 200 each time the button is pressed. To disengage cruise control just release the throttle lever.

The "No Wake Mode" button idles the engine up to 2000 RPM's or about 5 MPH to get thru those long no wake zones.

The new FX SHO skis come in a beautiful Metallic Midnigh Blue and Stelth Black with a MSRP of $11,999.

The FX Cruiser SHO comes in Crimson Red Metallic and Platinum Metallic with a MSRP of $12,799.

Both the FX SHO and FX Cruiser SHO have a 18.5 gallon fuel capacity.

Here is the boattest.com shootout between the SHO, RXT and 250X

The VX Cruiser comes in Eclipse Black and Carbon Bronze and feature a 1052 cc engine, 15.9 gallon fuel capacity and a MSRP of $8399.

The Yamaha VX Sport comes in Heat Red and features a 1052 cc engine, 15.9 gallon fuel capacity and has a MSRP of $7,599

The Yamaha VX comes in Aqua Blue and features a 1052 cc engine, 15.9 gallon fuel capacity and has a MSRP of $7,399.

The 08 Yamaha SuperJet comes in Atomic Blue and features a 701 cc engine, 4.8 gallon fuel capacity and has a MSRP of $6,699.

The newly designed SuperJet hull features molded in sponsons positioned forward on the craft that increase the wetted surface area of the hull. This allows the craft to turn easier while making the SuperJet more stable for novice and intermediate level riders. This feature stood out for me as it was my first time ever on a stand up and i found it real easy to get up on and make turns with a sense of control. What a blast, but it sure wore me out
